I hate to pick on Anne Hathaway as most people didn’t like her white winged gown she wore to the London premiere of ‘Les Miserables.’ However, the possible Oscar contender had a spotlight stealing snafu on the red carpet.
Her goal was to wear a statement making ensemble by Tom Ford. She and her stylist, Rachel Zoe, picked a gorgeous black gown that was fitted. It boasted some ruching which makes me question why she went commando, but Anne flashed the photo snapping line of press at the premiere.
We all make mistakes, but this one could have been easily avoided. The form fitting gown would show panty lines, but with all the options Spanx has…this should not be an issue. I too prefer to just go sans panties as the spandex rodeo is always such a battle in the bathroom, but I am not groomed for an Oscar.
Being that Anne has enough on her plate, I will let the trash bag looking cape on the dress go. I will say that the dominatrix boots were too much. Anne is elegant, classy and doesn’t need ridiculous footwear to commando attention. This would have been stunning if she had went with a more complimentary shoe choice. She is naturally gorgeous and trendy. No need to send her out like this.
UPDATE: Anne has commented on the situation on ‘Today’ with Matt Lauer…
“It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment, and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies the sexuality of unwilling participants. Which brings us back to Les Mis [...] So lets get back to Les Mis.”
Good for her!
