Applying Eye-Shadow using Color Theory

I only found out about Color Theory a few months ago, and it truly has changed how I view eye makeup.

Color WheelBut how can the humble Color Wheel, which we all remember from our school days, help me know what color to use on my eyes?

A common mistake many of us make is to pick a shade of eye shadow that is similar to our own eye color. However, picking a color that compliments, rather than imitates, your natural eye color is far more flattering and, pardon the pun, far more eye popping.

So what color should you use?

If you have green eyes….. make use of browns and purples. Think sunset colors and you’ll be on the right track.

If you have blue / grey eyes…. make use of colors from the orange family, such as peaches and melon colors.

If you have brown eyes…. thank your parents for allowing you to win the eye make up lottery! You can pretty much wear everything. This is because your eye color is a neutral one.
