Are Pillows Causing Your Breakouts?

Possibly! You have your usual suspects when it comes to acne. Hormones, diet, heredity and stress can all be to blame. Yet, you might be missing one easy fix.

Think about where you spend most of your time. The average adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep while the average teen needs 8-10 hours. You and your pillow have a long term and close relationship. If you are like me, then you are spending 9 hours of face time with your bedding. Bacteria, oils and sweat are pumped out of your body whether or not you are sleeping. (This is why sleeping in your makeup is the worst skincare habit.) Those oils and bacteria get trapped in your pillow and pillow case and then clog your pores.

A simple regular washing can make a huge difference on your complexion. Also, think about what fabrics you are using. Cotton and other absorbent materials can wick away those oils your skin naturally produces. This might be better for normal to oily skin, but harmful for those with dry skin. If you are seeking to help your skin replenish moisture, try satin sheets.

Whatever you decide is best for your skin, make sure to launder your bedding on a regular basis to banish breakouts.
