Ask Jane – Daily Skin Care Routine

I’ve had so many of you ask, especially since I revealed that I am struggling with adult acne, how I manage my skin. So I thought I’d do a quick post on my daily routine. I should preface by saying this works for me and may not work for everyone. So please take that on board when you read the following.
First of all, I take Doxycycline for my adult acne. One tablet per day with meals. It’s been three months since I started on this treatment and the results have been nothing short of amazing. Where before I would get pimples on a near daily basis, I haven’t had one in around six weeks.
My morning routine is fairly simple. I wash my face with Cosmedicine’s Healthy Cleanse for Oily Skin followed by Cosmedicine Speedy Recovery Acne Treatment Daytime Blemish Lotion. I know both of these products are pretty unpopular on Make Up Alley, but I love them and believe they are worth every cent. I also apply a cheap Natio eye cream to my eye area as, since I started on the antibiotics, my eye area has dried out completely.
My evening routine is just as simple. I use a wipe to remove the majority of my makeup. I then use my Cosmedicine Cleanser to make sure everything has been removed. Once again, I use a Natio eye cream. Followed by a prescription only cream called Epiduo. This is not a glamorous cream but it does do the job in keeping the pimples at bay.
In addition to my daily routine, I use Mario Badescue’s Drying Lotion for those times where I feel a spot coming on, or where I indeed have one. Thankfully, I am using this product less and less.
So there you have it. I hope you found this useful. I’d love to hear about your routines. Let me know how you manage your skin in the comments.

Hi Jane,
I sympathise with your adult acne issues … I had pretty bad acne up till my late 20s, when I finally did a course of Roaccutane, which made a major improvement. I still struggled with pimples though, and over the years the acne seemed to be returning (I’m 46 now). However, my most recent routine is working like a dream
In the morning I use Mukti Gentle Foaming Cleanser, an Australian-made organic product that is even better for my skin than my previous best find (Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel). I started using the Mukti cleanser in early October, and my skin has cleared right up, apart from a detour when I started using Revlon Mineral Mousse makeup. But I quickly realised the new foundation must be the problem and stopped using it, and now my skin’s good again. I have no pimples on my face at all today – unbelievable! This has only ever happened to me just after I finished the Roaccutane. So needless to say I HIGHLY recommend the Mukti cleanser. It’s amazing! http://www.muktibotanicals.com.au/
In the morning after cleansing I use L’Oreal Age Perfect eye cream and Nivea Oxygen Power Reviving Day Cream, which seems to work OK for me.
At night, I remove foundation/clean my face with The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner and remove eye makeup with a Neutragena product (not sure what it’s called). If needed, I just use the new Clearasil 4-hour cream, and finally I use Nivea Bye-Bye Spot Night Care cream.
All in all it sounds like a complicated routine, but I’m sure you know how quick it gets when you do it every day! And as you can see, all of these products are at the cheap end of the market – I tried every product known to man over the years and nothing made much difference, so I concluded that cheaper products are probably just as good – it’s a matter of finding the right products for your skin.
So that’s my routine – hope this helps
Sorry, Jane – I forgot to add that I also use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. I just mix a bit into the Mukti cleanser in my hand and use them together.
