Ask Jane - How to use primer

Janice from Washington, asks:

‘Jane, I’ve finally invested in a primer, but I’m still not sure if I’m using it the right way.  How would you recommend?’

Janice, I find the key to getting the primer right is timing.  Make sure you allow at least ten minutes from the time you apply your moisturiser before you apply your primer.  You want to make sure your moisturiser has sunk in completely.

Always apply primer lightly.  The aim should be to create a rice paper like wall between your face and your foundation.  Too little and it won’t make a difference.  But apply too much and it will make your foundation look cakey.

Finally, wait a further five to ten minutes after you’ve applied primer to apply your foundation.  I find that, by letting primer ’settle’, I get a better result with my foundation application.

Hope this helps!
