Ask Jane – Milk Baths
Sarah from Melbourne asks,
‘Jane, my boyfriend has bought me a spa package for my birthday that includes a milk bath. A milk bath? What in heck is that? Is it safe’
Sarah, I’m jealous already. You have a boyfriend that buys you a trip to the spa? Fantastic!
A milk bath is like any other bath, with milk instead of water. The milk isn’t the only ingredient, however. More often than not, lavender, honey and other essential oils will be thrown into the mix.
I myself have had a milk bath and, once I got over the initial ‘Oh, it’s milk’ reaction, it was very nice. When I got out of the bath, my skin was beautifully smooth and soft. The lady at the spa told me that was due to the lactic acid in the milk which, as a member of the alpha hydroxy acid family, helps to break down dead skin cells.
Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know. But I really enjoyed my experience and you should too. Just close your eyes when you first get in!
