Ask Jane – Wedges or Pumps?
Rachel asks,
‘I have athletic legs. Should I choose a wedge or thin type of heel to make my legs look sexy?’
Rachel,
I personally think you can wear both!
Pumps are always a safe bet. They flatter pretty much any leg and, with your toned legs, a slim and high heel will show off your calves to perfection. I am currently loving Enzo Angiolini’s ‘Murray’ pump. I love patent leather shoes generally, but the peep-toe (which gives it a very summery feeling) is what I really adore. This is the type of shoe that goes anywhere – work, wedding, after-hours function – perfectly versatile and oh-so-gorgeous.

As for wedges, in days gone by, us athletic girls were told to stay away from wedges, lest they make our legs look chunky. Personally, I think that we can wear wedges, so long as we choose the right ones.
The key for me, over the years, is to pick wedges that don’t have a strap that goes across the front of the ankle (as shown in the adorable Lovely People ‘Scorpio’ Sandals wedges, below).

A strap across the front will ‘cut’ your leg short, making it look stumpy. The absense of a strap gives the illusion that your legs go on and on forever. The wedges shown above are perfect for this summer. They are another peep-toe (can you tell I like peep-toes?), have a strap that goes around the back to give you stability and a lovely, chunky heel.
Hope this helps, Rachel!
