We live in a world where being early is actually on time and being on time is actually late. Time is the most valued commodity. With the holiday breathing down your neck as you scour toy stores, stock up on enough festive fare to feed an army, gift wrap, cook, clean, create your kids’ Winter Musical costume, deal with a sudden outbreak of the flu, send greeting cards and fall exhausted into bed, getting your brows waxed is the last thing on your mind.
If you are in a pinch, there are alternatives to time consuming appointments. Simple steps with things you probably already to on a daily basis can prevent the need for trying to squeeze in a visit to your favorite beauty treatment.
Teeth – Instead of opening your wallet and your calendar for a professional dental whitening courtesy of some fancy laser. Save time with LED treatment that won’t throw another to-do on your list. Laser whitenings require a 24 hour colored food ban. LED is easier on your teeth and gums. For an even easier treatment, simply brush with a spoonful of hydrogen peroxide before brushing with toothpaste.
Fingernails – As I mentioned in Nail Art for the Holidays, you can give yourself an easy and fun pedi at home. The options for polish strips are endless and easy to apply. If you prefer to remain “old school” and paint your piggies, use a lighter color. Imperfections are less noticeable. You can also extend the life of your polish by throwing on an extra top coat every few days.
Face – It is your canvas. Take care of it. Instead of spending time on a table letting someone whip up concoctions to slather on your face before de-clogging your pores, treat yourself to post shower/bath facial. Wash as you normally would in the shower. Let the heat and steam open your pores and then gently ease blackheads and clogs out with cleansing strips or gentle nudges with your nails. Follow it with an all natural and easy mask. Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 1 egg yolk. Smooth the mixture onto your face for 15 minutes. This would be a good time to pluck your eyebrows of stray hairs. After letting it soak in, rinse with tepid water.
