ghd hair stylers are the creme de la creme of straighteners.  With a price tag to boot.  I recently purchased a ghd and put it through its paces to see if the price tag is worth it.

Firstly, I absolutely hated the packaging.  Or, more accurately, I hated the excessive packaging.  This straightener came in a box, that was encased in another box, which was then encased in a carry bag.  It took me, literally, 10 minutes to get through the packaging.  This is pure over-kill, and a hideous waste of paper.

The actual straightener itself, however, is just beautiful.  There is not a single design or manufacturing flaw in this straightener.  It’s engineering at its very best.  The cord is long enough that you can move around freely in your bathroom, but not so long that you find yourself tripping over it.

The straightener heats up in around five seconds.  And it even lets you know when it’s ready to go, emitting a little ‘beep’ and a flashing red light.  The plates don’t tug at the hair and glide beautifully.

So how does it straighten?  I have to be honest when I say that, while this straightens beautifully, it doesn’t straighten any better than other straighteners on the market.  Ok, so it straightens better than a $50 unit, but it isn’t the holy grail or straighteners by any stretch.

Where the ghd is better, however, than any other straightener on the market, is the other stuff you can do with it.  The curls I can create with this are awesome.  And, thanks to the curved design of the barrel, I managed to curl my hair (which is shoulder length) in around ten minutes.  I just grabbed a section of hair, wrapped it around the barrel and, five seconds latter, had the most perfect curl.

Am I in love?  Absolutely!  Was the ghd worth the expense?  Absolutely!  The beauty of this product is the superb design – seriously, this is a sturdy and well-designed unit – and the, literally, hundreds of looks you can create using it.
