Michaela asks,

I would like to know what high heels do to 12 year olds and what inch they should wear?

From what I can gather, girls under the age of 12 should not be wearing heels on a regular basis as it could cause them physical damage. For a girl of 12, wearing heels from time to time is fine.

There are alot of questions around whether it’s appropriate for young girls to wear heels. This is my opinion only (and I welcome your comments / opinions) but I think wedges and short heels (definitely no stylettos) look really cute.

I really like these wedges from ModCloth. I think they are perfect for young girls who want to start dressing a little older but want to stay appropriate at the same time.

Can I apply Dinair foundation without the airbrush machine?

Absolutely you can, Cindy. Sometimes I just don’t feel like dragging out the machine, so I just pour a little of the Dinair foundation into a small container and then stipple on the makeup with a duo-fibre and/or stippling brush. The effect isn’t as good as my Dinair but it’s close.

Michaela asks,

How can I remove waterproof mascara and liner? I rub and rub but there’s still gunk all over my eyes.

First off, don’t rub! The eye area is super delicate.

For waterproof products, you’re going to need something stronger than a regular cleanser. Oil based cleaners are the best way to gently remove stubborn waterproof products.

I personally recommended Kryolan’s remover. A gentle swipe across the eye and – wooosh – off it all comes.

I’m an Asian woman, I want a skin tone lipstick that fits my lips and face

Hi Sheila,

Although I am not Asian, I have an Asian skin tone. I love MAC’s High Tea. I find it gives my lips a subtle hint of colour without being too over powering. This is part of MAC’s permanent line so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding it.

If anyone else has a suggestion for Sheila, leave it in the comments.

This request has actually come from a friend who is recently engaged and is on the hunt for an engagement ring.

Although you might love a ring you see in the jewellers, remember that it may not suit you. Here is a quick and easy guide to choosing the ring that will look best on your hand.

Long and/or bony fingers – Choose a round or oval setting. A wider band will not exaggerate the length of your fingers.

Short fingers – Choose an oval or marquise cut, but make sure it doesn’t extend beyond the first knuckle, or it will emphasise the shortness of the finger.

Small hands – Choose a small ring. A large ring may look gorgeous, but it will look heavy handed (pardon the pun).

Large hands – Choose a large ring. Remember, this is all about proportion. Get a couple of extra diamonds thrown in – you’re worth it!

This is just meant as a guide. Choose the ring you love and which best represents the love between you and your better half.

I’ve had a billion questions about the recent repackaging scandal that seems to be engulfing the indie mineral makeup world. So I thought that I’d do a single post to try and briefly explain what is going on and how you, as consumers, can be informed.

The recent scandal is around companies who claim to blend unique products but are actually purchasing them from wholesalers, repackaging them (ie just tipping the product into their own packaging), and selling them on to consumers, often at a hefty mark up.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with repackaging per se. The scandal is in many companies’ claims of being unique and different when they’re… well, not. It’s bad business and it reflects badly on indie mineral makeup companies as a whole.

After all, why would anyone in their right mind purchase at a massive markup when they could just as easily purchase direct from the wholesaler and save?

If you want to buy genuine, artisan style mineral makeup, then I’d suggest you check out the Mineral Makeup Mutiny. Established by the owner of Aromaleigh, the site aims to provide consumers with a list of mineral makeup companies who don’t repackage. It’s a great website designed to educate, inform and enlighten.

Jenny asks,

I have horrible, short, stumpy lashes. I’ve heard there are now drugs / drops (Latees I think the name is) I can put on my eyelashes to help them grow. What do you think? Are they right for me?

Jenny, the only people who can really determine if drugs like Latisse are right for you is you and your doctor.

There is no question that Latisse does work, however the side effects are something you need to be aware of (darkening of the eye lids, itching and redness). From what I gather, these are all reasonably mild side effects and, so long as you follow your doctor’s instructions, you should be ok.

If you do decide to go with Latisse, please keep in touch and let me know how it goes.

Jacqui, don’t ever feel stupid asking for what you want. It’s your hair and it’s important that you get the hair style you want.

I’ve lost count of how many of you have asked about Emily Blunt’s Golden Globes hair.

It really did look gorgeous, didn’t it? Elegant, sleek, but with a fun and modern twist. And it’s super easy to get.

To get this look, Blunt’s stylist applied a shaping cream to Emily’s wet tresses. Wrapping small sections around her fingers, the stylist then gently pinned the tresses up and let them dry naturally. To add texture and bounce, some sections were wrapped clockwise and others anti-clockwise (neat, huh?!).

Once dry, a curling iron was used to accentuate the curl, whilst the ends were straightened.

This is such an easy style to achieve and it looks amazing. Good luck ladies!

I have super dry skin. It’s even worse now that it’s winter. What do you recommend?

Minty, here is a great little do it at home mask that should give your skin an instant moisture kick.

Mix together one raw egg and one teaspoon of coconut oil (I use coconut milk/cream, just because I love the smell). Mash up one avocado and slowly add the egg and coconut oil mix to create a paste. Apply the paste to a clean face and leave for around 30 minutes. Rinse well and – voila – your skin should feel gorgeous.

I have a round face and i want to get a haircut similar to Fivel Stewart’s. Would it look good on me? And how do I explain the haircut to the person cutting my hair?

Joy, I think this haircut would work well on a round face.

To explain your cut to your hairdresser, I would take a picture of the haircut in so that the hairdresser can get a visual of what you are after.

Tell the hairdresser that, like Fivel, you want shorter layers cut to frame the face. These shorter, messier layers will offset the heaviness of the fringe.

Good luck Joy!
