A few years ago, Elizabeth Arden released a hand lotion version, and now, over 70 years after its inception, the cream has been repackaged in limited-edition 1950′s packaging.

The new Lip Protectant Stick has SPF 15 ($25) and is packed with vitamin E Since it’s the time of year where my lips are inexplicably dry no matter what I do, I thought I’d give it a little road test.

I’m a fan of the lipstick-style tube, since it really only requires one hand to apply. The actual product has the same scent as Eight Hour Cream: powder-y and retro. This thick formula sits on top of lips, which makes me think it’s kind of heavy on the wax. Still, it stays on and heavily moisturizes, so if you can swing the price and are one of the many Eight Hour Cream devotees, give it a try.

Elizabeth Arden‘s Good Morning Skin Serum is the primer holy grail for many, so we decided to put it through its paces. Does it measure up to its hype?

The product, in many ways, has the texture of an oil. I applied it with my foundation brush and it easily slipped on to my skin.

Does it work? Without question, it does. On one day, I applied the primer before applying my foundation. Not only did the foundation stay put for longer, it still looked fresh at the end of the day. On the second day, I did not apply the primer. By midday, I was in the bathroom with blotting paper, trying to rescue my foundation.

There is no question that this is a product that promises what it delivers. I can see why people love it.

I had two quibbles with the product. The first was the packaging. I, generally, hate glass bottles. They break far too easily.

Secondly, you don’t get an awful lot of product for the price. After just one week of use, I had used a quarter of a bottle. At $34 a pop, that makes this product one expensive primer. That might relegate the product to one you only use on special occasions, when you really want to look your best.

Pros: delivers what it promises, helps extend the life of foundation

Cons: packaging, may not be good value for money.

Elizabeth Arden – $125

In Elizabeth Arden’s, Ceramide Skin Soothing Loose Powder, I’ve found the powder of my dreams (aside from a couple of flaws, which I’ll mention later). I used the product in conjunction with Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Mousse.

Using a powder brush, it glides on smoothly, setting my makeup in place for the entire day. Because the powder is so fine, you don’t use alot of it, so it’s great value for money.

There are two things, however, that I don’t like with this product. Firstly, there is no SPF, so make sure your moisturiser or your foundation has an SPF in it. Secondly, the puff that comes with the product is woefully inadequate. I use my own powder brush.

Pros – fine powder, glides on perfectly, has staying power

Cons – price, puff is of poor quality, no SPF
