Those of us with tattoos that are visible to the public have always had someone say, “What if you want to wear an evening gown and you have THAT THING showing?” at one time or another.  Usually, we’d just tell them where to go, but the fact remains, maybe…just maybe we don’t want to show off our true selves at the fancy holiday office party at The Four Seasons Hotel.

I am so disappointed that we can’t get Shu Uemura via shop fronts anymore. What a totally underrated brand!

Sad news, y’all – L’Oreal-owned Japanese beauty brand Shu Uemura will begin phasing out all US operations soon.

The brand, which does about 80% of its business in Asia, will close down all of its brick-and-mortar points of sale in the United States while still offering a limited selection of products online to American customers.

We’ll sure miss the brand’s great eyeshadows, as well as their industry-favorite eyelash curler. We’ll let you know when we get more information about the shutdown timeline and what will eventually be available online to those in the US. The shutdown will apparently affect none of the brand’s other worldwide markets.

If my skin is playing up, and we all know my skin is like Naomi Campbell – temperamental – then I reach for Shu Uemura’s Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/I.

This stuff not only cleans off every trace of makeup, but it leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. And no breakouts! Bonus!

Ok, this isn’t the cheapest oil on the market. So, I’ll admit, I only use this occasionally when my skin is being particularly badly behaved. But it’s so so so worth it.

How I love false eyelashes!

On those days where I’m just not feeling great, or those occasions where my eyes need a big POP, I always turn to my vast collection of falsies.

Shu Uemura’s Mini Star Glitz lashes aren’t new, but they make my heart sing. Not only are they luscious and long, but they have the cutest little star motifs on them.

There are precious few days left until we will all be attending New Year’s Eve parties, which are usually the glammest and sparkliest of the year’s festivities. There are a lot of choices to be made – what will you wear? Silver or gold? Heels or boots? Sequins or glitter? Clutch or mini crossbody?

So naturally, I’ve been dying it since I was in high school, but that doesn’t make up for the sometimes precarious eyebrow situation I’ve got going on. For the past few years I’ve been dying my hair darker, so my eyebrows can look a bit…out of place. Most people have eyebrows that are either the same color or darker than their hair naturally, and having mine lighter can look weird, to say the least.

I’m not really willing to dye them and I hate the look of a drawn-on eyebrow, so the Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil has been a lifesaver for me because of its special formulation.

Instead of just being a repackaged version of brown eyeliner (let’s face it, that’s what most brow pencils are), this particular product is different because it’s specially formulated to only deposit color when it’s interacting with the oils in hair. I have really short eyelashes. How can I make them look longer?

The trick with eyelashes, whether short or long, is in the curl.

Get your hands on a good eyelash curler and you’re in business. Also, heat up the curler before you curl the lashes (a quick blast with the hair dryer will do the trick). I find it helps to ‘set’ the eyelashes for longer.

Invest in a good curler, such as the Shu Uemura, and you’ll find your lashes looking stunning in no time.

Extra hot tip: Lashings of mascara will help lengthen your lashes. Just remember that, when adding coats, apply when the previous coat is still wet, otherwise you will end up with clumps.
