My husband, Stephen agreed to be a guinea-pig for the Jack Black’s Beard Lube that I received from Sephora, along with an order of goodies (sshhhhh!) for myself. Turns out, he really liked the product. I asked Stephen for his own words on the “conditioning” shave cream–and this is what he said: ” Very smooth, creamy; it kept the razor from causing nicks. No real scent, which was nice.” Hey, now! How ’bout that?

Beard Lube Conditioning Shave with Jojoba and Eucalyptus – 6 oz. – $16 – Sephora

An entirely new way to shave. Unlike traditional shaving foams and gels which can dry out skin, Jack Black’s award winning Beard Lube is a pre-shave oil, shave cream and facial skin treatment in one easy-to-use product specially formulated for men’s shaving needs.

The lightweight, penetrating formula not only helps prepare your beard by penetrating and softening whisker growth, it holds in moisture so your shaving blade glides easily. Refreshes skin, too, for an easier, smoother shave and less razor burn. The unique see-through texture lets you see where you’re shaving, helping to prevent nicks and cuts–especially great for shaving side burns, mustache and head. Won’t clog your blade, because it’s super light and rinses easily.

Fragrance-free. Colorant-free. Dermatologist tested. Vegan.

See how great Stephen looks?

And yes, it left his skin nice and smooth.

How do you feel about your man’s fragrance? Do you fancy a scent, or do you want him to just smell like soap? I enjoy a fragrance on my men (my sons included), but I’m ultra-picky about the scent. It cannot be powdery or musky, or I’m in a perpetual state of feeling carsick, and no one wants that situation.

My husband, Stephen wears Bvlgari Aqva, and I love it. The combination of notes are bright and invigorating: Mandarin, Petit Grain, Santolina, Posidonia, Mineral Amber. Style: Fresh. Elegant. Masculine.

Bvlgari Aqva – 3.4 oz Eau de Toilette Spray – $79 – Sephora

My eldest son, Alex wears John Varvatos Artisan. It’s suits him perfectly, with a modern citrus, leather and woodsy blend of notes. (The packaging with the wicker bottle is stunningly masculine and unusual.)

Lastly, my 21-year old son, Hunter wears Hanae Mori and has since he was 16. (Quite the sophisticate, eh?) Get a load of the combination of notes in this spectacular fragrance: Jasmine, lavender, vanilla and chocolate. Again, this fragrance is absolutely perfect for the man who wears it: “Unforgettable. Strong. Noble.”

Hanae Mori – 3.4 oz Eau de Toilette Spray – $70 – Sephora

Scent plays such an enormous part of our memories, and I love that I have these wonderful scents in my mind’s eye…or should I say mind’s nose?

The name of this new magazine made me giggle — Fantastic Man — but it’s British, so it makes perfect sense. Speaking of perfect. Whether David Beckham is rocking hipster glasses with a preppy sweater and tie (with may-juh tats showing), or checkered trousers chowing down on “pie and mash” in an East London eatery, he is indeed perfect.

via United Fashion States:

This magazine is for those who do not know, released every month and season a series of interviews and photo essays at the hands of renowned photographers in the trends presented last season as well as proposals for more innovative looks. This is an Esquire though perhaps more classical than usual but definitely a good way to us with ideas for outfits for large collections and all that, photographically speaking has an incredible quality.”

Becks really IS Fantastic

This is a very interesting and rather posh men’s magazine, and I’m eating it UP. If you’ve noticed, I do write about my love of men’s clothing. I worked in the industry for many years and have THREE men in my family who are also in the men’s clothing business. I think I just may subscribe to this publication.

Just look at these gorgeous pieces by Cavalli, Alexander McQueen, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. Exquisite. It’s not often we see David Beckham wearing actual clothing in editorial pieces in magazines. I’m not complaining, but I love the oh, so British feel of premiere fashion photographer, Alasdair McLellan’s images.

Lovely all the way around…dare I say, Fantastic?

Tom Ford – The Quintessential Gentleman

via AnOther Magazine:

1. You should put on the best version of yourself when you go out in the world because that is a show of respect to the other people around you.

2. A gentleman today has to work. People who do not work are so boring and are usually bored. You have to be passionate, you have to be engaged and you have to be contributing to the world.

3. Manners are very important and actually knowing when things are appropriate. I always open doors for women, I carry their coat, I make sure that they’re walking on the inside of the street. Stand up when people arrive at and leave the dinner table.

4. Don’t be pretentious or racist or sexist or judge people by their background.

5. A man should never wear shorts in the city. Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate. Shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach.

Don’t you wish we all lived in Mr. Ford’s World? I know he can be pretentious at times (he’s entitled), but deep down, I think he’s just a sweet, polite Texas boy who has impeccable taste and manners.

I do believe we ladies need to remind the men in our lives of these gentlemanly social graces. I’m so fortunate that my husband fits the bill, but my sons could brush up on a few of these points. (They don’t read this blog, so I’m not worried about a backlash.) I seriously did the best I could teaching them decent etiquette, but I’d love for Tom to come to the house and whip them into shape for a refresher course. They would listen to Tom Ford, of that I’m sure. Lord knows, they don’t listen to me.

You’d think Johnny Depp shaved his entire head, the way everyone is freaking out about how he kinda-sorta shaved his scruffiness. He does still have a bit of a mustache, but most of the beard is gone.

The thing with Johnny is that he actually could shave his head, and still be bloody gorgeous. (Okay, maybe just pretty; not ruggedly handsome like Jason Statham’s head, but still.)

Then we have the impeccably groomed Tom Ford. We would all be hard-pressed to find a more categorically flawlessly preened gentleman.

The question today is, how do you like your man? My elegant husband is a silver fox, who sports a cropped cut and a perfectly groomed goatee. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Photo: jaBrink

Women (and men!) most definitely a have preference in terms of facial hair. Let’s hear what you desire in men’s grooming habits.

I don’t think I’m in the minority when I say to men, “If you’re losing your hair–embrace it!” John Travolta was “caught” at the beach (at least I’m hoping that’s where he is, considering that sling he’s sitting in!) sans any sort hairpiece whatsoever. And he looks just fine!

Photo: Flynet

John would look even better if he just recognized how ridiculous he looks with his array of wigs/weaves/hairpieces of variously strange styles and colors. No, John. Just, NO. Stop it.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B: Bruce Willis and Jason Statham

Just look at these two action stars, totally rocking the HEAD. Personally, I find this look extremely sexy masculine. Women are attracted to a man who is secure (but not obsessed) with his self-image. Dudes who think that they ARE their hair would be wise to really listen to how women feel about this subject.

See how much better John looked totally bald in From Paris With Love?

Honestly, John. No one expects…or even wants you to look like Danny Zuko or Tony Manero for the rest of your life. Anytime you’re feeling insecure about that receding hairline–just Google Jason Statham, forpitySAKE.

We may just start a Facebook petition…look where it got Betty White!

Us ladies get to pamper ourselves a lot – the overwhelming majority of beauty and self-care products are designed and marketed directly for our exclusive enjoyment, and we get to play with lots of fun lotions, potions and other fun things.

Men, on the other hand, don’t have so much to look forward to, post-shower. They get…aftershave? Cologne? That’s pretty much it. If you want to buy your man something a little bit special that he actually might use, consider the eShave Lavender Shave Cream.

It’s luxurious like the bath products we know and love but still utilitarian enough that your guy might use it – a perfect combination, right?

Most of the men that I know are difficult because if they want something, they’ll just buy it for themselves anyway, and that leaves few gifts to purchase when the holidays roll around.

As far as I can tell, the best way to handle men like that is to go off script. Don’t get them something that they’d buy themselves – get something that they’d never think to buy. Pamper them a little bit.

For most men, high-end shaving products fall squarely into the category of what they might have never thought about. In fact, I bet a lot of them don’t even know they exist. For those guys, try something from the Acqua di Parma Collezione Barbiere.

The products are ultra luxurious and it might help him make the boring chore of shaving just a bit more enjoyable.

Part of a new Axe line designed to fix any dirty little issue a guy may have, Recovery is loaded with electrolytes to help revive you after any type of over indulgence (hint: we hear it’s goes very well with a cup of coffee and aspirin).

With its sunny color and light citrus scent Recovery is like scrubbing down in Gatorade…but in a good way! We like to think of it as the boyfriend jean of body wash. Sure, it may be a little less glam than what you usually rock, but totally it’s comforting and definitively what you want to put on after a late night.

What other dirty deeds is Axe looking to fix? Check out www.thefixers.com to find out what it means if you discover Shock, Fever or Snake Peel (yes, you read that right, Snake Peel) in your guy’s shower.

Every holiday season, I always find that guys are (by far) the hardest to shop for. But before you wrap up the boring ole “scarf-and-mittens” combo, check out these fun, under-$50 grooming finds. Happy shopping!

For your boyfriend, husband or best guy friend: Anthony Logistics for Men Grab + Go Portables, $35, comes with travel-friendly versions of his soon-to-be-new grooming essentials like a glycolic face cleanser, scrub, cleansing gel, shave cream, shampoo and astringent after shave. The best part: the six products are housed in a resealable, TSA-friendly plastic bag so he can zip through airport security.

For Dad: Kiehl’s Refueling Kit, $40.50, is a fabulous back-to-basics (but still super manly!) skincare kit with six face and body groomers that will be sure to make any dad smile.

For Grandpa: He’ll love this Ralph Lauren Polo Men Gift Coffret, $49.50. It comes with minis of the colognes Explorer, Double Black, Polo, Polo Blue and Polo Sport, so he can test them to find his new favorite signature scent or pack them for golf trips or other vacays.

For your younger brother: How funny are these self-adhesive mustaches, $10?! They’re such conversation starters, and your bro can see what he would look like with mustaches a la Burt Reynolds, Geraldo, Johnny Depp and Borat to name a few. Pretty hilarious!
