Is it just me, or has Katie Holmes been looking great lately? It’s so nice of Tom Cruise to let her out of the house once in a while.

Her beauty look for the NYC premiere of “The Extra Man” was effortlessly chic. She’s a perfect example of how to grow out a bob without actually looking like you’re growing out a bob, and her makeup enhances her features instead of distracting from them. For an early evening event, it looks like she did a perfect job.

Ah, this dress I can get behind and adore thanks to it’s generous and forgiving nature. The rouch has risen and replaced the now over done Herve Leger dresses that Hollywood was in love with. (Some still are showing their adoration, I think it might be time to move on.)

Katie Holmes, Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton are all fans to the style and have good reason for it. The gathering of fabric is forgiving to any bumps or ripples. At the Japanese premiere of “Valkyrie,” Katie had long, loose waves that would make Joey Potter proud. And while we definitely approve of the change (not to say we don’t love her sleek, chic, shorter hair too, because we do!), we’re wondering what prompted it.

Katie’s been under scrutiny for her thin frame recently — she’s reportedly undergone a drastic Scientology detox (a Purification Rundown, according to the Daily Mail) in order to prepare her body for a second pregnancy, and it’s left her looking a little frail. Maybe this was a way to draw attention away from it (or cover her protruding clavicles).

Holmes’ pal, Victoria Beckham, also revealed her latest fashion campaign. She typically leans to anything Marc Jacobs has a hand in creating, but she followed in the image of her hubby with Giorgio Armani. While Katie will be featured in more of the Miu Miu line, Victoria’s ads are strictly for the underwear campaign.

Katie Holmes attended the after party wearing a silk jumpsuit that she designed herself. I say bravo for the effort and her attempt at being fashion forward. It takes courage to step out in something new, let alone being the hand that created the style.

However, I feel like there is something about the rest of her that just isn’t put together. Her appearance is sloppy and unkempt. Unfortunately she is a miss in this. I appreciate the style, but the overpowering mess of bad hair and questionable makeup.
