DIY Detox

Is the real reason you can’t fight off illness without spending days miserable and curled up on the sofa due to your toxicity level? I don’t want to alarm you, but you are breathing in toxins as you read this. According to the Douglas Laboratories Metabolic Rejuvenation Pamphlet

*Over 80% of foods have genetically modified ingredients.

*2,100 chemicals, including pesticides, herbicides, PCBs, medications such as antidepressants and recreational drugs are in our water supply.

*80,000 metric tons of carcinogens are released into the air annually in North America.

Toxins are a part of life you can’t eliminate, but a buildup could cause some problems your body. You can, however, flush them from your system and prevent a buildup.

Flushing out toxins will strengthen our immune system and prevent disease. The health boosting detox has its benefits, but you don’t have to drink some weird juice concoction or live on kale and spring water for a month.

The skin is the largest detoxification organ. Toxins can be drawn out through via sweat, so a good workout does more than just build muscle and trim waste lines. This is why steam rooms are also beneficial.

A detox bath is another easier way to enhance our body’s natural detoxification process. Epsom Salt, also known as magnesium sulfate, is the key here. Add 2 cups to your bath water. To increase mineral absorption, add 1 cup of baking soda as well and keep the water as hot as you can safely get it. (Note the word “safely” there!) Soak for 20 minutes and let the sweat happen. Take deep soothing breaths and relax.

After your soak, rinse off in a cooler shower. Avoid using harsh soaps which fill your opened pores with more chemicals. Moisturize with a natural hydrator like shea butter. Keep hydrated with filtered water during this process.
