Fashion Spotlight: Interview with Lisa Kline
Earlier this year, after 16 years of owning one of the most popular stores on Robertson Blvd., founder Lisa Kline closed the doors to her women’s boutique. Her decision, although difficult and to some surprising, was brought on by the ever-changing world of the retail industry.
Recently I had the chance to speak with Lisa about her new direction, tips for success in the industry and what fashion we should look forward to in Spring 2012.
On closing her women’s store:
It is what it is, that’s how the world has changed. My model of brick & mortar, in my opinion, doesn’t work anymore because everything is online. I’m going to do women’s, just in another way.
Lisa’s new venture, VANITI, is a boutique marketplace set to launch Winter 2012. She is the co-founder and CFO (Chief Fashion Officer). As the CFO she will select the brands on the site and also have her own creative store. You can expect to see Lisa Kline leggings, jewelry, tops and more. Did you know Lisa studied fashion design?
On creating her own line:
Before I was very focused on opening stores, focused on being a retailer. This is the time now for me to do what I’ve always wanted to do. I’m excited and I still get to promote all the brands that I love and do what I love doing for VANITI.
With a positive outlook on her new direction, Lisa offers this advise to those trying to succeed in the fashion industry:
Have the pulse on what’s around you. Be ahead of the game. Social Media is important: Twitter and Facebook.
You can follow Lisa Kline on Twitter and Facebook!
For Spring 2012, Lisa says it’s all about reversible denim by bluelab, great bags and amazing shoes. Check out her fun fill-in-the-blanks below:
