Fashion show beauty is one of the most interesting makeup arenas out there. Because of the context, makeup artists are given freedom to use cosmetics in weird, inspired and wonderful ways in order to create looks that, on the whole, probably shouldn’t be worn outside but can, in part, influence how we do makeup for months to come.
The most jarring beauty look that I’ve seen so far at New York Fashion Week is easily Marc Jacobs‘ kabuki styling. He covered his models’ faces in chalky foundation and miniaturized their lips with dark, matte colors.
The best part, though, was the extreme attention to detail paid to the models’ eyes. Both the upper and lower liner was applied artfully and in thin, languid streaks that extended beyond the eye, accented by the narrow strips of white shadow on the lid. I wouldn’t wear this look all at the same time, but if this doesn’t inspire you to experiment with liquid liner, I don’t know what would. Go forth and be brave; Marc would want it that way.
