Green Beauty Products: Do they really work?

“Going Green” isn’t something new, but it is far more accessible than it was when I was a young beauty maven. Eco-Friendly products are as close as your drugstore or a mouse clicks.

However, when something sounds too good to be true…it usually is. When “green” products began hitting shelves, it usually meant a sacrifice in quality. With these products, you want have to give up the results to be kind to the world.

- Sunny Sunscreen -

The Claim: Relies on natural active ingredients to block sun rays while given free radicals a beat down with antioxidants without any preservatives, dyes or fragrances.

The Truth: It’s as good as any other sunblock in the SPF 35 range and under. The texture is pleasant and the UV blockers work just as well. It may not last as long as your average sunscreen. You will need to reapply every 2 hours. (You should be reapply any brand/type of sunscreen at least every 3 hours.)

- Priti NYC Nail Polish Remover -

The Claim: Biodegradable Acetone free wipes that will remove polish easily using naturally drived soybean esters and plant fibers.

The Truth: These worked shockingly well. It takes far more time than your typical remover. The slow process is worth the wait though. The only downside was the greasy residue, but it helps to moisturize cuticles soft.

-Yes to Tomatoes Spot Stick-

The Claim: Gentle Zit Zapper that is 97% natural.

The Truth: It’s natural and if you have super sensitive skin…a great option. If you need something a bit more powerful…keep looking. The formula uses salicylic acid versus benzoyl peroxide which is good news for allergy sufferers, but the results are mixed. One user found no difference while another noticed a decrease in pimple size.
