Inauguration Day Fashion At Its Best: Jason Wu Does It Again!

First Lady Michelle Obama outdid herself today, didn’t she?  Yes. Yes, she did.

Take a LOOK at this gown, you guys.

This gorgeous vivid red gown is one the most anticipated dresses for 2013. Academy Awards red carpet, WHO? WHAT? Michelle Obama once again chose American designer, Jason Wu for her 2013 Inauguration Ball gown. What an incredible coup for this young designer.  We can most certainly expect even greater things from him in the coming fashion seasons–and I for one, cannot wait!

Wu was just as surprised by her choice and Tweeted: #Inshock!!! after Michelle stepped out in his read creation. He was rumored to be competing with dress options from Derek Lam, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Narciso Rodriguez and Naeem Khan. While on ‘Today,’ Wu added, “I’m still pinching myself!”

He has been a fashion staple in the First Lady’s closet. She has donned his dresses on several occasions, most notably on the cover of Vogue’s January 2009 issue. Jason explained that he and Michelle were on the same page when it came to selecting the color.

“I sent a couple sketches but we only made one dress. Red was what came to my head right away. As a designer I always have to trust my instincts. Last time, she didn’t [make suggestions], but this time I said, ‘I think red is a really good color’ and they said, ‘Well, Mrs. Obama thinks red is a good color too. I guess we were in sync from the beginning.”

Congrats, Jason Wu!
