Jill Scott Demanded to Keep Hair Natural for Cover of Essence Magazine
This gorgeous woman. This talented, lovely woman. Just take a good long look at the October 2012 cover of Essence with R&B singer-songwriter Jill Scott with her beautifully perfect, natural hair.
Jill Scott – Beautiful, Indeed
It’s not that Jill doesn’t like her weaves or wigs…she just enjoys having a choice in the matter. Apparently, Ms. Scott gave Essence an ultimatum–either they let her show off her natural hair on the cover, or she wouldn’t do the cover at all.
via The YBF:
“This is the simplest form of myself. I look in the mirror and it’s like, ‘Hey, there you go. What’s up, girl?’ For me, hair is an accoutrement. Hair is jewelry. It’s an accessory. Tomorrow I may want a wig down to my butt and I’m gonna rock it, and the next day I may want a big Afro and I’m gonna rock that too…”
I love Jill’s philosophy of hair being an “accessory”, don’t you?
