With Halloween mere days away, it’s time to start planning your makeup look now. If you haven’t made an appointment to have yours done by your favorite artist, may I suggest that you start stocking up on some low-cost, high-wattage favorites in order to get the over-to-top beauty looks that only Halloween allows (and that we all secretly love and wish that we could wear on a regular night out as well).

I kicked off the Halloween festivities a bit early this year with a party last weekend, and I was sure to hit Sephora beforehand to grab some stuff to take my makeup to the next level. For occasions like this, I have no problem buying from store line instead of going with my favorite name brands, so I scooped up a bunch of Sephora brand goodies in wild colors to play with.

My favorite acquisition was the Sephora Glitter Eyeliner pictured here in gold, although I chose silver. Calling it an eyeliner is probably a bit misleading – there’s not pigmentation other than the glitter, so it’s hard to form an obvious line with it. But it worked beautifully when layered over a silver eyeshadow – the glitter stayed in place all night once it had dried, most likely because it’s formulated like a waterproof eyeliner.

I was worried that the glitter would flake in to my eyes and cause discomfort after some wear, but I had no such problem. It stayed put and didn’t travel around my face or in to my eyes, which was a very pleasant surprise and not the experience that I’ve often had with other glitter eye products. I even ended up sleeping in my eye makeup (bad, I know) and it was still in place when I woke up the next morning.
