Tanning Secrets

I have been dipping my kids in SPF 50 every time the step into the sun. The damaging UV rays and their consequences are scary enough, but I miss the honey glow of sun kissed skin.

I have come to accept that the temporary glow is not worth the aging skin damage of the sun. Back in my high school days, we all lined up and waited to spend 20 minutes baking ourselves. If I would have known then what I know now…see the Truth About Tanning Beds by clicking HERE. Just because I no longer sizzle in the sun for color doesn’t mean I have to give up the glow it up all together.

Self tanning and spray tans aren’t what they used to be. Paris Hilton’s orange hue is a thing of the past with all the options out there. I have uncovered some tanning secrets that will help banish the Oompa Loompa look and increase the power of your fake bake.

First and foremost – EXFOLIATE! Slough off any and all dead skin before you spray or self tan.

SELF TAN, YES YOU CAN!: It is far easier on the wallet and run around $10-$35. It can be done in the privacy of your bathroom and on your time. You can also do it as often as you like.

*The Secret* For longer last results leave your self tanning lotion on for at least 8 hours. Use some sheets you aren’t partial to, lather and sleep. Your skin heats while you sleep which will provide a deeper penetration. Wash up the next morning with a warm (NOT hot) water and a mild soap. Coat yourself in a layer of your favorite moisturizer and go!

Use Neutrogena’s Build-a-Tan for a gradual glow. For a scentless application, go for Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer.

SPRAY TAN, YES MA’AM!: It will cost at least twice the price of the self tanning option and runs around $40-$100, but will last longer. A pro can easily cover hard to reach areas and help ensure an even application. The price might also be worth it if you are looking for a specific shade. Most professionals can customize your color.

*The Secret* This a spray tan secret stars use to look leaner in minutes… Using your fingers, a makeup sponge or a skilled spray tan pro to apply extra self tanner along the sides of your torso, down the outsides of your quads and over your clavicle bone to create a trim illusion.

Find a reputable salon or professional. Don’t go on the cheap and just find the best deal. Word of mouth tends to be your best option.
