It’s possible that this is only a problem for me, but I suspect it’s not. My hair is naturally curly but I almost always flat iron it, and that’s not something that I want to redo every day. On top of that, my hair is naturally super dry - even if I wanted to, rewashing and restyling every day isn’t a remotely healthy option if I want to keep my hair in shape.

But somehow, as soon as my head hits the pillow at night, my hair is almost immediately too greasy to manage. I’m not prone towards oiliness in general, so I have no idea why this happens. I changed from cotton pillow cases to silk, it didn’t help at all. I tried putting my hair in a ponytail, and that only helped a little.

What finally did it for me the realization that, on the nights when I go out, my hair always looks better in the morning than it does after an average night. The difference? HAIRSPRAY! I always put more on if I know I’m going to a bar, and I put it on later in the day, meaning that there’s still some in it when I go to sleep and when I wake up.

I tested it out by spraying a little bit of L’Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Hold Hairspray on my hair before bed every night for a week, and lo and behold, I got the same next-day effect that I was getting from my nighttime hairdos. It doesn’t take much, plus the Elnet hairspray is totally nonsticky and disappears with the sweep of a brush the next day.

So if you’re looking to get an extra day from your blowout, give some before-bed hairspray a try. The spray coats the hair and prevents the oil from getting unmanageable, meaning that you can put off your next blowout for at least one more day.
