Tip Stop – Do Cleansing Oils Bring On the Zits?

do-cleansing-oils-bring-on-the-zits

Does the combination of rising summer temps and products that resemble the “oil spill” atop your pizza, be a recipe for breakouts or major bacne?

Not so, says Ava Shamban, a dermatologist in Beverly Hills.

“Oil-based skincare has become increasingly pore-friendly, meaning it won’t clog your pores. The products that have earned their zitty reputations tend to be heavy on the wheat germ, mineral, shea butter and lanolin oils, so steer clear of products that have these offenders high up on the ingredient list.”

Instead, look for products enriched with olive, grape seed, emu and sweet almond oils.

“They have a rejuvenating effect on our skin, easing inflammation and protecting against free radical damage.”

I’d like to mention that they’re also amazing for breaking up stubborn makeup. Looking for a few good oil-based cleansers to try? Here are my favorites:

Nude Cleansing Facial Oil: Massage this on a dry face and watch it transform into a silky cleansing milk. Sephora – $52

Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Body Cleansing Oil: Try it as a shaving oil, too — seriously. Kiehl’s – $27.50

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Classic: Mr. Uemura created this in 1967 as a soothing cleanser for actresses’ sensitized skin. It was enough for his glamour pusses, and even mere mortals thinks it’s pretty great. Shu Uemura – $28
