Tip Stop – Fail proof fake tanning
October 5, 2008

Fake tan is a great way to keep that summer glow all year long. But who wants to end up looking like a parched orange? Here are some great tips that you can use at home to look brown without resembling a clown.
- Always exfoliate before you apply the tanning lotion. Exfoliating will give you the perfect blank canvas to work on.
- If you want your tan to look as natural as possible, don’t aim to get the same colour all over. I always use a little extra moisturiser on those places where I wouldn’t normally tan (and, therefore, don’t want too much of an effect) before I apply the tanning lotion. Hot spots for me are the inside arm (forearm), armpit and a little bit between my boobs.
- Work quickly with any tanning solution. Clean sweeps across your body should do the trick.
- Avoid rubbing tanning lotion into areas like knee caps and elbows as dry areas will suck in the colour and give you a blotchy result.
- Invest in a tannerizer. This will help ‘top up’ your tan and extend its life.
