Tip Stop – How to Get Shiny Hair

Envious of the glossy manes seen all over the red carpet? Lucky for us, you don’t need to be a pro to show off silken strands. Read on as ten stylists share their easiest tips on how to score shiny hair.

Tip Stop - How to Get Shiny Hair

Olive Oil Cures All
“Olive oil boosts shine and adds moisture to all hair types,” says Mario Russo, owner of Boston’s Salon Mario Russo. Look for a shampoo that contains olive oil for a gentle cleansing that leaves hair luminous.

Fekkai Glossing Shampoo, Sephora, $23.

Get Glossed
A clear gloss treatment seals the hair’s cuticle for incredible shine, says Rita Hazan, New York Celebrity Stylist and Salon Owner. Get it done at your salon, or try a home version.

Fekkai Clear Shine Rinse, Sephora, $28.

Shine Spray
“Look for a glossing cream or serum with shine-boosting panthenol or provitamin B5. Massage a tiny bit through towel-dried hair, then style,” says Barry Reitman, Stylist at the Beverly Hills Kevin Josephson Salon.

Citre Shine Shine Anti-Frizz Serum, Drugstore, $6.89.

Shampoo Less
“I recommend shampooing only a few times a week, but conditioning every time you wash your hair,” says John Barrett, New York Celebrity Stylist and Salon Owner.

John Barrett Be Conditioned, $28.

A Better Blow-Dry
Direct the airflow from your dryer down the hair shaft so that the cuticle layers aren’t ruffled — a smooth surface reflects more light, says Jason Schwind, Creative Director for Graham Webb and Stylist At Denver’s Vain Salon.

T3 Pro Dryer, Sephora, $119.

Deep Treat
To keep hair in top shape, deep condition once a week. “You need to moisturize the inner cortex of your hair and rehabilitate it from being damaged,” says Christo, Owner of New York’s Curlisto Salon.

Curlisto Deep Therapy Masque, $32.

I would gently wring your hair with the towel, don’t rub. Then I would apply some light oil, making sure to stay a good 3 inches from the scalp. Run your fingers through your hair as it dries naturally.
