Celebrities are surrounded by a wealth knowledge of stylist and makeup artists that make up a super team of glamor. You’d *think* they would really have great beauty tips, but some of them are making us cringe!
Skip Sunscreen per Gisele Bundchen – “I cannot put this poison on my skin. I do not use anything synthetic.”
I love how haughty Gisele is. She stomps a runway with zero fear or hesitation and I wish I had her confidence, but some of the statements that fall out of her mouth make me facepalm. We covered this one when Gwyneth Paltrow made a similar statement earlier this year. We covered the damaging and deadly effects of UVA and UVB rays here and here…
Exfoliate Skin With Kitty Litter per Snooki – “I like to Google a lot and I don’t like to spend a lot of money on spa treatments because I’m like a cheapo. So, I Googled what else I could use and it was…cat litter.”
Oh LAWD. Snooki could swear on a stack of Bibles and I will still research her promises. While you can use kitty litter, it damages skin more than anything. Using litter will result in inflammation and blotchiness along with micro scratching that can permanently scar skin and tear pores!
Ketchup to Reverse Dye Job Damage per Sienna Miller – “Little did I know (using henna to dye my hair brown) was the worst thing I could have done as it coats the follicles so that nothing else can penetrate so I ended up having to put ketchup in it for about a year to get rid of the green tinge!”
NO. Just…no. The only thing you will accomplish with ketchup is attracting bugs and smelling like a hot dog.Use a three to one ratio of rubbing alcohol with mineral oil to color correct.
Use a Sharpie to Line Eyes per Taylor Swift – “I once used a Sharpie as eyeliner in an airplane bathroom because I didn’t have any with me.”
This is an all around bad idea. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most sensitive. Putting anything filled with chemicals that aren’t approved for the tender area is no-no. You could permanently damage your skin and your eye. I will note her statement was more of a beauty confession rather than advice, but I felt we should debunk it just in case.
Detox Your System With Shakes per Gwyneth Paltrow – The Clean Program is a favorite of Paltrow and she credits it to dropping her 40 pound pregnancy weight according to her site, GOOP.
There is a reason it’s called GOOP because it rhymes with what you will be doing a lot of on this program…poop. Experts have debunked the “cleanse” and agree the rice-protein powder and fiber shakes just make you poop. The supplements—probiotics, enzymes, and concentrated essential oils—won’t clean out your system any better than your system can cleanse itself. Nutrition expert Andrea Giancoli, MPH, RD explains, “Our bodies, when we eat a healthy, balanced diet, naturally do an amazing job of detoxing.”
